Studio YUL is a women-led cultural enterprise working to revive the indigenous craft heritage of Himalayan tribal communities. Guided by a regenerative, place-based approach, we collaborate closely with artisans to create handcrafted products rooted in local knowledge, materials, and traditions.
Founded in 2024 by Aditi Dimri, YUL began with a simple realisation that the cultural and craft traditions of her homeland were slowly fading. Inspired by the idea of ཡུལ, the Tibetan word for native land or place of belonging, YUL began in the quiet Himalayas of Chamoli, also home to the courageous Gaura Devi and the legacy of the Chipko Movement, led by the women of the region who stood to protect their forests.
Through mindful design and respectful collaboration, we create pieces that carry the spirit, textures, and stories of the Himalayas into modern-day living.

BLOG 001 // THE NERVE OF ROOT
The Rongpa Weavers
At YUL, we work with the last generation of weaving artisans from Chamoli, Uttarakhand, the Rongpas of the upper Himalayas. One of the region’s oldest native communities, they have lived for centuries as nomadic pastoralists, moving with their sheep and yak across the high Himalayan and Indo Tibetan landscapes.
Their craft practises are shaped by lived knowledge, seasonal rhythms, and a deep relationship with land and animals. Together, we co create textiles and objects rooted in their indigenous skills and way of life. Alongside this, we are slowly documenting their culture, stories, and everyday rhythms, so what they carry forward is not lost, but remembered.
